How to Write the Perfect Wedding Vows

September 13, 2019 | Posted in Trends, Weddings

Writing your wedding vows can be stressful. Trying to figure out how to put what you feel in your heart on paper isn’t as easy as it sounds. This is your opportunity to share your love with your soon-to-be spouse before family and friends and you don’t want to mess that up. Though your wedding vows should be your own thoughts, here are a few suggestions on how to write vows that speak from the heart.

Use Adjectives that Describe Your Partner

Your vows are meant to show your partner just how much you care about them. To determine how to best express your feelings start by writing down adjectives that best describe your partner. Are they funny, compassionate, or adventurous? This gives you a starting point which can then be formulated into sentences.

Use Stories

You can really make your wedding vows special by pulling from stories or experiences of your past. Think about the first time you knew they were the one, your first date, when you proposed, a funny incident, or simply a memory that stuck out for you. Using personal experiences and stories help you to further draw on emotion and write the perfect wedding vows.

Think About the Future

Vows are also a promise to your partner to love, honor, and cherish them for life. As you think about what that means, paint a picture of what your future together might look like. What can you promise them? Do you want children in the future? Do you hope to grow old together? These things are ideal for finishing up your vows.

 Comedy Always Works

Whether you have a dry sense of humor or you’re gut-busting funny you can throw a few punch lines into your marriage vows to lighten up the mood. Whether you point out some funny character trait or habit they have (as long as it doesn’t embarrass your partner) or you draw from a funny experience a little laughter goes a long way during a wedding ceremony.

In your mind, you probably know exactly what you want to say to your spouse, but putting pen to paper is a whole new ballgame. Though we hope these wedding vow tips certainly help you to draft the perfect words, don’t get too stressed. At the end of the day, as long as it comes from the heart it will be appreciated by all.
